pinocchio : a modern tale
For children who identify as transgender, there is little to no representation of themselves in books, TV or online.
Using the mainstream story of Pinocchio, we created a LGBTQ version. This was a pro bono project and could not have been completed without the help of TONIC and Greyson Matthews Audio.
Our client, Glad Day Bookshop was created in 1970 and is the world’s oldest surviving LGBTQ bookstore. Their goal is to support, nurture and inspire creativity within the queer culture and community.
We collaborated with Joe Blume, an award-winning illustrator to create and pitch a storybook.
By translating this video into book format, we hope to provide a way for young children and parents to read a narrative that is inclusive to all. The more LGBTQ literature that exists, the brighter our future will be.
Here are some frames from the book.
